Kingfisher Fish & Chips Sustainable Seafood Purchasing Policy
Sustainability: Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future Generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development must address environmental, economic and social factors and the interrelationships between them
It is our intention to assist in ensuring the world’s oceans are teeming with life, and seafood supplies are safeguarded for this generation and many more. As fish lovers it is our duty to look after tomorrow’s fish, today.
Sustainable fish comes from an environmentally responsible fishery that does not contribute to the global environmental problem of over-fishing. To be properly worthy of the name a sustainable fishery must unequivocally be able to maintain fish stocks at a manageable level whilst maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
We will try to ensure all the fish we purchase has a ‘MCS’ sustainability rating no higher than a ‘3’
To aid us in our decision making we will consult www.fishonline.org which is compiled by the ‘Marine Conservation Society’ which is regarded as the best European guide to date.
Should we find any of our products/species at a fishery has a MCS sustainability rating of higher than a ‘3’ We will endeavour to source the product/species from a fishery that has a MCS sustainability rating of ‘3’ or lower, if this isn’t possible, that product/species will be removed from the menu and we will cease to purchase it. Until that particular product/species has recovered. A responsible fishery will take into account sustainability criteria and observe when resources may need to recover.
